The little-known but delightful Hendrik Christian Andersen Museum hosts an exhibition exploring the work of Dante on occasion of the 700th anniversary of the Supreme Poet’s death. In Dante’s Footsteps from Literature to Graphics presents the etchings of Giovanni Hajnal (1913–2010), a Hungarian artist who has reinterpreted some of the most engaging passages of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, in a strikingly original manner. Throughout his long career, Hajnal always felt a bond between himself and the great Florentine poet. Inspired by his overwhelming fascination for Dante’s three canticles, he translates and transcribes and eternalizes them through his own masterful medium of engraving. The works on display follow Dante’s journey through hell, purgatory, and at last, paradise, expressing the universe of human feelings, from internal conflicts to the fear of being trapped to the hopes of humanity in search of absolution.

Via Pasquale Stanislao Mancini, 20. Free entrance.
