Traditional Roman cuisine in a cozy and inviting setting—a new restaurant has it all.

If you are looking for a truly authentic Roman meal, look no further. Frezza – Cucina de Coccio is a brand new restaurant opened by actor Claudio Amendola in the center of Rome, just behind the Ara Pacis. It’s a warm, welcoming osteria specializing in the mouthwatering, homemade dishes of the Roman tradition, prepared just like they would be in a nonna’s kitchen. As they step inside, guests are welcomed personally by Claudio himself and shown to a table in one of the two simply furnished rooms or in the pleasant outdoor seating area.

All the classics of the local cuisine are prepared lovingly by chef Davide Cianetti, and many of them are served in terracotta pots to enhance the full flavor of the high-quality ingredients. Start your meal with one of the unmissable appetizers, such as the delectable fried zucchini flowers or the tripe or oxtail fritters. When it’s time to select a primo, you can never go wrong with a traditional Roman pasta dish such as classic amatriciana, gricia, puttanesca, carbonara, or cacio e pepe. For a heartier second course, opt for the meatballs, beef straccetti, involtini (meat rolls) with tomato sauce, broccoli, and sausage, oxtails alla vaccinara, or cod alla romana, complemented by traditional side dishes like puntarelle (chicory) or artichokes prepared any number of ways.

The menu also includes a selection of thin and crunchy Roman pizzas topped with typical local ingredients, as well as some unusual options, such as goose ham and dried figs. Add to all that a large selection of wines to pair with any dish. The service is generous, friendly, and informal, making guests feel perfectly at home.
