Shock in Rome as bodies of baby and woman found in park
Double mystery as bodies found a few hours apart in Rome's largest park.A police investigation is underway in Rome after the bodies of a baby girl and a woman were found in undergrowth in the city's Villa Pamphilj park on Saturday afternoon. The body of the baby, believed to have been aged between five and seven months, was found by passersby in bushes near the children's playground on the Via Vitellia side of the park.
The people who discovered the infant's body, found without clothes, approached the corpse initially thinking it was a doll.
A few hours later, as police were at the scene, the body of a woman was found in a black rubbish bag a few hundred metres away under some bushes.
The macabre discovery was made by a Peruvian woman who reportedly noticed an arm sticking out of the bag.
Her screams alerted the nearby police who rushed on foot towards the second crime scene, chased by photographers and reporters.
The area has been sealed off as authorities seek to ascertain whether the death of the baby and the woman were connected and whether the two deceased were related to each other.
