Italy supermarket chain Coop swaps Israeli products for Gaza Cola
Coop Alleanza 3.0 removes Israeli goods from shelves.Italian supermarket chain Coop Alleanza 3.0, which operates 350 stores in Italy, has stopped selling Israeli products in a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the Palestinian people.In a statement, the cooperative said it could not "remain indifferent in the face of the violence underway in the Gaza Strip" and the blocking of humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza.
Coop Alleanza 3.0 said it has removed Israeli-produced peanut and Tahini sauce products, as well as Sodastream branded items, from its shelves.
Parallel to this move, the group has begun selling Gaza Cola, a Palestinian-owned beverage brand whose proceeds go towards rebuilding al-Karama Hospital in Gaza.
Part of the Coop Italia consortium, Coop Alleanza 3.0 operates in eight regions of Italy: Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Lombardia, Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Abruzzo, Puglia and Basilicata.
