US murder suspect Francis Kaufmann extradited to Italy

Kaufmann is wanted in Italy over double murder in Rome park.Francis Kaufmann, a US citizen arrested in Greece last month in relation to the murders of a woman and a baby girl in Rome's largest park, has been extradited to Italy.Kaufmann, 46, was tracked down to the Greek island of Skiathos almost a week after the bodies of his partner, 28-year-old Russian woman Anastasia Trofimova and their baby daughter Andromeda were found in Villa Pamphilj on 7 June. Kaufmann landed at Rome's Ciampino airport from Greece on board a military jet at around midday. He reportedly became enraged with officers on arrival, complaining of being beaten and threatening that he was ready "to report everyone". He then said he felt ill and was taken to the hospital under police escort, according to Italian media. Kaufmann was due to have been held in the secure section of Rome's Rebibbia prison, as ordered following his previous outbursts in Larissa prison, where he destroyed the cell he had been held in since 12 June. Upon his return to Italy, Kaufmann was served with a pre-trial detention order for double homicide and concealment of a corpse. He maintains his innocence. The investigating judge will then schedule the preliminary hearing which is expected to take place next week.   Kaufmann, a would-be film producer who operated under a number of aliases, became embroiled in a controversy last month after it emerged he had secured a €900,000 tax credit from Italy's culture ministry for a film that was never made.
