One million pilgrims gather in Rome for Jubilee of Youth
Pope Leo prays for two young pilgrims who died during Jubilee of Youth.An estimated one million young people from all over the world gathered in the outskirts of Rome on Saturday evening for a prayer vigil as part of the Jubilee of Youth.Pope Leo XIV led the pilgrims in prayer at the vigil which culminated in a Mass on Sunday morning, presided over by the pontiff, bringing to an end the week-long Jubilee of Youth event.
The pilgrims spent the night at the huge open-air site in Rome's southeastern Tor Vergata suburb, where the World Youth Day was held 25 years ago during the 2000 Jubilee.
The event featured singing, Scripture readings, and Eucharistic Adoration, with Pope Leo hosting a question-and-answer session addressing topics relating to friendship, life choices, and encountering Jesus.

Pope Leo, who arrived at the venue by helicopter from the Vatican, prayed for two young pilgrims who died during the Jubilee: Maria, a Spanish woman, and Pascale, originally from Egypt.
The pope also called for prayers for a young Spaniard hospitalised in a serious condition at the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome.
The Jubilee of Youth, the largest event of the Vatican's ongoing Jubilee Year, has seen hordes of young pilgrims descend on Italy's capital over the last week.
