Italy to launch night train linking Rome to Christmas markets in Munich
Festive rail service will operate between Rome and Munich on select dates in December.Italy is launching a night train linking Rome with the legendary Christmas markets in Munich, departing from the Italian capital on 5 and 12 December and returning on 7 and 14 December.The Espresso Monaco is one of several limited edition rail services provided by Italy's tourist train initiative, FS Treni Turistici, which also offers a Christmas Market rail journey to Arezzo.
Equipped with a bar and restaurant service, the night train will be decorated in a Christmas theme, with festive music playing in the background and a small gift for each passenger.
"Forget the stress of driving and airport queues. With the Espresso Monaco, you'll fall asleep in Italy and wake up in the Alps", organisers say, describing the rail journey as "an experience that combines the comfort of an overnight journey with the thrill of discovery."
Passengers have two travel options on board the train: single or double cabins, or couchettes with 4/6 beds.
The train departs Roma Termini on 5 and 12 December at 19.57Â and arrives in Munich at 13.00 the next day.
The Espresso Monaco stops along the way in Verona, Trento, Bolzano, Bressanone, Fortezza, Vipiteno, Colle Iarco, Brennero, Innsbruck and Kufstein.
The return trips on 7 and 14 December sees the train leave Munich at 13.40, arriving back in the Italian capital the next morning at 06.33.
