14 November: Air traffic control strike and airline walkouts
Air travellers at airports across Italy face delays and cancelled flights due to a four-hour strike by air traffic controllers on Friday 14 November, from 13.00-17.00.
In addition, staff employed by the Volotea airline plan a 24-hour strike on the same day, with easyJet staff also staging a walkout from 13.00-17.00.
Flights scheduled in Italy between 07.00-10.00 and 18.00-21.00 are guaranteed, even during strikes.
14 November: Local public transport strike in Rome
Local public transport services in Rome are set to be impacted by a 24-hour strike on Friday 14 November, affecting buses and subways (the capital's trams remain out of action until 8 December).
Full details will be announced nearer the time however the usual strike timetable in Rome is from 08.30 to 17.00 and from 20.00 until end of service.
28 November: General strike
Trade unions USB and CUB have called a national general strike for public and private sectors on Friday 29 November in protest over the government's 2026 budget bill.
The unions have also demanded a pay increase and say that retirement age should be brought back to 62, calling on workers to "block everything" - like they did during the recent mass rallies for Gaza - and join the protest against the "war budget".
In addition to schools, healthcare and factories, the strike is set to have major implications for air, rail, maritime and local public transport - see below.
27-28 November: Rail strike
Italy faces a 24-hour nationwide rail strike from 21.00 on Thursday 27 November until the same time on Friday 28 November, affecting train services across the country.
Regional and long-distance rail services are set to be impacted by the walkout, however "essential" regionial services are guaranteed during strikes on weekdays from 06.00 to 09.00.
The Trenitalia website contains a list of guaranteed trains during strikes, including medium- and long-distance services, with travel information for each region.
Rail travellers are advised to check the status of their train service before making their way to the station.
28 November: Airport staff strike
Air travellers flying in or out of Italy could face disruption on Friday 28 November, coinciding with the general strike, as ground staff stage a 24-hour strike in several airports in Italy, with Milan Malpensa set to be particularly affected.
Italy's civil aviation authority ENAC, whose website should have information about the strike nearer the time, reminds air travellers that during strikes in Italy flights scheduled between 07.00-10.00 and 18.00-21.00 are guaranteed.
