My new book, Rome: A Culinary History, Cookbook, and Field Guide to Flavors that Built a City, has officially dropped, and I am thrilled to finally release it into the wold. This project grew out of decades spent roaming the city with a notebook, a camera, and a healthy appetite for archives and carbs. The result is a deep dive into how Rome has fed itself across the centuries, from ancient grain fields to modern pasta labs. It looks at the places where food was produced and consumed, the people who shaped those spaces, and the way each era left its impression on what Romans eat today.

You will meet artisans who spend their days coaxing flavor out of overlooked cuts and underused vegetables, bakers who obsess over fermentation schedules, and cooks who understand that technique and memory matter more than trend chasing. You will also find plenty of hard history because nothing in this city exists without a backstory. The book connects the dots between imperial logistics, medieval hunger, Fascist propaganda, and the everyday dishes that Romans still cook at home.
