Rome's Fiumicino airport marks new record of 50 million passengers in 2025

Rome airport to welcome two million passengers over Christmas holidays.Rome's Fiumicino airport, known officially as Leonardo da Vinci, has exceeded a new record of 50 million passengers in a year for the first time. The award-winning airport is set to close 2025 with more than 51 million passengers, an increase of four per cent on the previous year, equivalent to an additional two million visitors compared to 2024. Fiumicino also expects to welcome a total of two million travellers over the Christmas holidays, between 22 December and 7 January, in addition to the 180,000 expected at Rome's second, smaller airport at Ciampino. Rome airport management company, Aeroporti di Roma (AdR), credited the surge in passenger numbers at Fiumicino to a number of factors including long-haul flights and a network of 240 destinations. The milestone is "the result of operational planning, a long-term industrial vision, consistent investments, and the work of a great team of people who, every day, contribute to consolidating Rome Fiumicino's position as a global hub," Marco Troncone, CEO of AdR, said in a statement. Earlier this year Fiumicino was included among the Skytrax World's Top 10 Airports ranking for the first time, climbing four places from 12th place last year to eighth in 2025.
