Italy faces airport and airline strikes on 9 January
Disruption expected at airports in Italy on Friday due to strike action involving ground staff as well as easyJet and Vueling cabin crews.Passengers travelling through airports in Italy on Friday 9 January could face disruption due to several strikes affecting the air travel sector.Airport ground staff at Milan's Linate and Malpensa airports have called a 24-hour strike on Friday, with a separate nationwide strike by airport staff scheduled from 13.00 to 17.00.
The strike at the Milan airports involves staff from the Airport Handling and Swissport Italia companies, while the national strike involves employees of the airport handling services provider Assohandlers.
In addition, Italy-based pilots and cabin crew employed by British low-cost airline easyJet are to stage a 24-hour strike the same day, with staff at Spanish budget carrier Vueling set to strike from 10.00 to 18.00.
Travellers who are scheduled to fly with either airline through Italian airports on Friday are advised to check their flight details in advance and arrive at the airport early.
