Italy faces national train strike on 27-28 February

Train passengers in Italy face disruption due to a 24-hour strike.Italy faces disruption to rail services across the country next weekend due to a 24-hour national strike by train staff and railway maintenance workers. The walkout is timetabled from 21.00 on Friday 27 February until 21.00 the next evening, Saturday 28 February, and has been called by several trade unions: CUB Trasporti, SGB and USB Lavoro Privato. The strike could affect services operated by Trenitalia, Italo and Trenord, and "may lead to changes to services, including before and after its conclusion", according to a statement on the Rete Ferroviaria Italiana website. Those planning to travel by rail in Italy on night of 27 Feburary or the next day are advised to check updated timetables on the official websites and apps of the train companies before travelling. Travellers are reminded that rail connections to and from Rome's Fiumicino airport could experience delays or cancellations as a result of the strike. The walkout by railway staff follows a spate of suspected sabotage attacks on Italy's rail network during the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. Separately, a strike scheduled for 16 February involving several airlines and staff at Italian airports has been postponed to Thursday 26 February following intervention by Italy's transport minister.
