We are pleased to invite you to the lesson “The Seed as a Biological Project: Sowing and Germination Techniques”, which will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Hortus Urbis.
During the three-hour session we will explore:
- how a seed works from a biological perspective
- proper sowing techniques
- the factors that promote successful germination
The lesson will include an initial theoretical part, followed by a hands-on workshop, where participants will have the opportunity to practice the techniques presented.
The session will be led by Alessandro Palenca, an experienced nurseryman and a friend of Hortus Urbis.
The meeting is part of the course REPRODUCING LIFE: Science and Practice of Plant Propagation, a series of lessons dedicated to exploring the different ways plants reproduce, from seed propagation to more advanced vegetative techniques.
It is also possible to attend individual lessons.

Practical information
- Location: Hortus Urbis, Via Appia Antica 42/50 – Rome
- Contribution: suggested donation: €25 per person for each session
- Limited places: registration is open until all places are filled.

Hortus Urbis at the former paper mill “Cartiera Latina”, via Appia Antica, 42 /50 (near the fountain)
Bike: Cristoforo Colombo bike route and Circonvallazione Ardeatina.
Bus: 118 or 218 on the Appia Antica (Domine Quo Vadis stop); 30express, 714 and 715 on the via Cristoforo Colombo (Cristoforo Colombo/Bavastro stop or Cristoforo Colombo/Circonvallazione Ostiense stop) and then short walk along the Circonvallazione Ardeatina in the Scott Park.
Car: parking available at via Appaia Antica 50.
