Roma footballer El Aynaoui held by armed robbers in Rome villa

Roma player targeted in violent armed raid.AS Roma midfielder Neil El Aynaoui has become the latest high-profile victim of a targeted burglary following a terrifying ordeal at his villa outside Rome in the early hours of Tuesday.A gang of six armed men broke into the footballer's home in the Castel Fusano area to the south-west of the capital, not far from the Roma training ground at Trigoria. The Moroccan international, 24, was confronted by the group who were armed with handguns and had their faces concealed. During the course of the robbery, the assailants forcibly moved El Aynaoui and locked him inside a room along with his partner, his mother, his brother and his brother's partner. While El Aynaoui and his family were locked up, the gang ransacked the property in search of high-value items.   The robbers made off with jewellery worth around €10,000 as well as a Rolex watch, designer handbags and cash. The footballer's mother told Tg1: "They put a knife to my throat, took everything, and left, telling us to keep quiet."   El Aynaoui did not sustain any serious physical injuries during the intrusion but was reportedly suffering from shock and missed training ahead of Thursday's match against Bologna. Police are investigating the crime, one of numerous recent robberies involving Roma and Lazio footballers, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. Among the most high-profile robberies over the past few years occurred at the homes of Philippe Mexès, Mattia Zaccagni, Toma Bašić, and Chris Smalling.
