Ready or Not 2 Makes a Killer Entrance at Casina Valadier

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Kathryn Newton brought Hollywood horror glamour to the Eternal City for an unforgettable Italian premiere event.Rome doesn't scare easily, but on the evening of March 23rd, Casina Valadier got a decidedly dark makeover. The iconic venue overlooking Villa Borghese was transformed into a gothic wedding reception for the Italian launch of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (Finché Morte Non Ci Separi 2), the hotly anticipated Searchlight Pictures sequel arriving in Italian cinemas on April 9th.The event, billed as a "Dark Wedding Party", was everything the title promised. The facade of Casina Valadier was lit up with a striking themed video projection, welcoming guests to an unusual dark wedding. Inside, the horror aesthetic came fully to life: blood-red floors, dark floral arrangements, themed cocktails, a wedding cake bearing projected images from the film, and a bridal gown presiding over the balcony like a silent, ominous host. The guests of honour were two of the film's stars, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Kathryn Newton, who threw themselves into the spirit of the evening with obvious enthusiasm. Newton arrived in a stunning scarlet gown with a mermaid-style bubble hem and matching red patent leather pumps, while Gellar opted for an ivory strapless dress. There was, however, a notable and bittersweet absence: lead actress Samara Weaving, who reprises her role as Grace from the original film, was unable to attend due to her pregnancy and has only been present at select promotional events. In a moment of playful solidarity, Newton and Gellar brought a life-size cutout of Weaving's face so their co-star could be represented on the red carpet regardless. Earlier in the day, the two actresses had made the most of the Roman setting. Travelling by golf cart through the gardens of Villa Borghese, they took part in film-themed activities before posing for photos on the Casina Valadier terrace with the Eternal City spread out behind them, a backdrop that few premiere events in the world could match. The sequel picks up immediately where the original left off. Having barely survived a no-holds-barred attack by the Le Domas family, Grace discovers she has advanced to the next level of the nightmare game, this time with her estranged sister Faith by her side. Four rival families are hunting them for a throne that controls the world, and only one can win. The film premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival on March 13, 2026, and was released in the United States on March 20th, where it has already earned strong reviews and generated considerable buzz. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo behind the original film, Scream VI and Abigail, return to helm the sequel, with the story expanding to include a remarkable ensemble: Elijah Wood, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, and director David Cronenberg himself stepping in front of the camera. One of the film's more charming behind-the-scenes stories involves Newton's lifelong admiration for Gellar. A devoted fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Newton reportedly recreated a specific Buffy outfit for her character in the film — something Gellar only noticed when they appeared together on set for the first time.  At the Rome photocall earlier that day, Gellar offered a glimpse of her current outlook on life and career. "I definitely feel like less is more now," she told reporters. "Instead of being afraid of aging, I'm realising that I feel better now than I did in my 20s."  Ready or Not 2: Here I Come opens in Italian cinemas on April 9, 2026.
