Rome reopens Rose Garden on 11 April
Rose garden reopens early in 2026.Rome will reopen the Roseto Comunale, the municipal rose garden on the Aventine Hill, on Saturday 11 April. To mark the opening, the city said it will release a large number of "predatory insects" - natural enemies of the most common rose pests - into the garden.
The symbolic event is designed to promote biodiversity and raise awareness about how infestations can be tackled without chemical treatments, the city said in a statement.
The initiative forms part of a broader biological pest-control programme being carried out by the capital's environmental protection department.
This spring, organic treatments got under way on palm trees in Piazza Vittorio and Piazza di Spagna, with similar interventions planned for trees in Villa Aldobrandini and Villa Torlonia, targeting the red palm weevil.

Rome's Roseto Comunale hosts about 1,100 varieties of botanical, ancient and modern roses from all over the world.
This year, the garden reopens 10 days earlier than its usual reopening on 21 April, the date of the city's Natale di Roma birthday celebrations.
Located on the eastern side of the Aventine hill overlooking the Circus Maximus, the rose garden can be visited for free, from 08.30 to 19.30.
The garden is divided into two sections: the higher section features a collection of classic specimens while the lower garden, which will open from mid-May, contains the roses reserved for the Premio Roma, the prestigious international contest to judge the most beautiful rose in the capital
There is no charge for visiting the rose garden and reservations are not required.
