Zelensky visit leads to traffic restrictions in Italian capital.Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky will arrive in Rome on Wednesday 15 April for an official institutional visit which includes a meeting at Palazzo Chigi, the seat of the Italian government. Zelensky's visit has prompted traffic restrictions in Rome. Overnight parking bans came into force in the Parioli and Pinciano districts, as well as around the Quirinale presidential palace and Palazzo Chigi. The Ukrainian leader will be received at 15.30 at Palazzo Chigi by Italy's prime minister Giorgia Meloni. The visit comes at a particularly sensitive moment in Italian-American relations, with Zelensky's arrival at Palazzo Chigi also touching on the question of Russian gas, a subject Meloni has addressed in the context of economic pressure as a tool for achieving peace in Ukraine. Zelensky has made several trips to Rome since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, meeting with President Sergio Mattarella in May 2023 and joining Meloni for a bilateral meeting at Villa Doria Pamphilj in October 2024. The Ukrainian president also visited Rome in January and December in 2025, as well as meeting Trump at the Vatican last April during Pope Francis's funeral.
