On Monday 21st April, Rome celebrates its 2779th birthday, known as Natale di Roma. This annual celebration commemorates the founding of Rome by Romulus in the year 753 BC. Parades, historical re-enactments, free museums, important inaugurations are all happening on the Natale di Roma. Discover the program of events.

The historical reenactment society known as the Gruppo Storico Romano will bring history to life through dramatic reenactments of battles, rituals, ceremonies, and even gladiatorial combat. From April 18 to 21, the group will animate the Circus Maximus and the main streets of Rome with historical reenactments and educational activities.
The programme includes the Gladiator Tournament, reenactments of rituals, battles, and scenes from everyday life in ancient Rome, educational activities for the general public, interactive camps open to visitors, conferences and talks with experts, as well as gladiatorial games tournaments involving schools from as many as 16 countries. The highlight will be the historical parade on April 19, when more than 2,000 reenactors in period costume will march through the streets of the city, offering Romans and visitors an immersive journey into the history of ancient Rome.

The programme also includes the Harpastum event, an international match taking place on Saturday, April 18 at 5 pm at Stadio Nando Martellini – Terme di Caracalla, where international teams will compete in a reenactment of ancient Roman football. A brand-new feature of this edition, and a first in the event’s history, will be a women’s Harpastum match.
