This session is designed for anyone who wishes to learn how to propagate plants in a natural, effective, and accessible way—even without prior experience.
During the three-hour session, we will explore:
- the biological principles behind vegetative propagation
- how layering and air layering work
- when and why to choose one technique over the other
- the factors that promote rooting and successful propagation
The lesson will be structured in two parts:
- a clear and accessible theoretical introduction
- a hands-on workshop, where participants will directly practice the techniques
Guided by Alessandro Palenca, an experienced nurseryman and friend of Hortus Urbis, we will quite literally “get our hands in the soil” to closely observe how a new plant is born.
- What you will learn
- how to create a new plant starting from a branch
- which plants are best suited for these techniques
- the most common mistakes to avoid
- how to replicate everything at home
The session is part of the series
“REPRODUCING LIFE: Science and practice of plant propagation”, a cycle of lessons dedicated to exploring different plant reproduction strategies, from seed propagation to more advanced vegetative techniques.
