SPID — Sistema Pubblico di Identità Digitale
Italy’s national digital identity login system. Once activated, SPID unlocks thousands of online public services: INPS, Agenzia delle Entrate, Portale Immigrazione, Comune portals, and much more — all from your phone or computer.

How to activate SPID: Your CIE can be used to activate SPID directly via an NFC-enabled smartphone or PC card reader. No additional identity documents needed once your CIE arrives. This makes getting your CIE first the smart move.
Renewal: The CIE is valid for 10 years for adults. You can begin the renewal process up to 6 months before expiry — same process as the initial application.

Note: Appointment availability and waiting times vary significantly between small towns and large cities. Always check your specific Comune’s website for local requirements and opening hours.
