Italy's culture and tourism ministries launch pilot scheme allowing visitors to beat the summer heat, with Milan's Castello Sforzesco joining the initiative.Rome's Colosseum and Pantheon will stay open late this August, as part of a joint scheme launched by Italy's ministry of culture and ministry of tourism to ease the impact of summer heat and high visitor numbers on the two ancient monuments.  Under the trial initiative, which begins on 1 August, the Colosseum will open specially on Fridays and Saturdays from 19.45 to 23.30, while the Pantheon will extend its hours every evening except Thursday, from 19.00 to 23.00.   Milan's Castello Sforzesco has joined the scheme too, staying open daily from 17.30 to 19.30, with reduced-price tickets giving access to Michelangelo's Pietà Rondanini and the Passione e Disegno exhibition.   Culture minister Alessandro Giuli said the extended evening openings of the two Rome landmarks offered a special way to experience "two universal testaments to history and human ingenuity".   He also framed the joint initiative with the tourism ministry as a demonstration of institutions pooling their expertise and resources for the benefit of citizens.   Tourism minister Gianmarco Mazzi said the trial had been developed in consultation with tour guides and industry operators to meet the needs of both travellers and residents, and stressed that cultural tourism remained a priority given its contribution of some €58 billion to the national economy.   The scheme is designed in part to redistribute visitor flows away from the hottest hours of the day, allowing tourists and residents to visit the sites in cooler, quieter conditions during the evening.   Earlier this month, the Pantheon hiked its entry fee for tourists from €5 to €7.
