The kitchen, done up in a glossy deep red that we can’t help but love, is fully equipped for anyone who wants to cook rather than eat out every night.

However, the real advantage of this property isn’t just what’s inside it — it’s what’s next door. This apartment on the fifth floor was recently and thoughtfully renovated, but the building didn’t lose its character in the process. The cementine tiles on the floor are original and date back to the late 1800s and they give every room a bit of old Roman soul against the white walls and clean modern furniture. A narrow terrace wraps around the flat, just enough space for a coffee and a cornetto outside before heading out for the day. The building itself has a lift, so climbing stairs with luggage isn’t part of the deal.

As mentioned in the opening lines of this post, being an easy walk from Roma Termini means this apartment works as well for a weekend in Rome as it does for a base to explore beyond it — Florence, Naples, or the airport are all a train ride away. Closer to home, the surrounding streets put you within walking distance of the metro and several bus lines that will get you into the historic center — Trevi, the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Monti district — in no time.
