"Zitòn" passed away in his native Sarnelli having lived through two world wars.Vitantonio Lovallo, Italy's oldest man, has died at the age of 112 in Avigliano, a small town in the province of Potenza in the southern Basilicata region.  Known locally as "Zitòn", Lovallo was born on 25 March 1914 in Sarnelli, a hamlet of Avigliano, where he spent almost his entire life.   A shepherd and farmer by trade, Lovallo worked the land from a young age and continued to tend the family fields until he was 109.   He served as a soldier during the second world war, during which he was taken prisoner. In his later years his remarkable longevity drew the attention of national media and researchers studying supercentenarians.   Giuseppe Mecca, the mayor of Avigliano, paid tribute to Lovallo, telling news agency ANSA that his 112 years embodied more than a century of the town's history, "the sacrifices and values of entire generations, the attachment to family, to the land and to our roots".   Lovallo's funeral will be held on 17 September at 10.30 in the church of San Vincenzo Ferrer in Sarnelli, after which he will be laid to rest in the Lagopesole cemetery.
