Floriani Mussolini found the net in a 6-2 away win that kept Lazio level with Inter at the top of table.Romano Floriani Mussolini, the great-grandson of Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, scored his first Serie A goal on Tuesday as Lazio beat Sassuolo 6-2.The Lazio right-back scored the third goal, putting his side 3-1 up, and celebrated in front of the thousands of travelling fans. He told sports streaming platform DAZN the goal was a thank-you to the supporters who made the trip. “It felt like playing at home,” he said.
He also credited coach Gennaro Gattuso, saying the secret was the freedom he and the left-back are given to push forward while keeping concentration high.
Lazio’s other scorers were Taylor, Isaksen, Zaccagni and Noslin, who got two. Sassuolo’s Thorstvedt equalised early on. Zaccagni and Frattesi both missed penalties. Lazio have won all but one of their league games this season, drawing only with Milan, and are level on points with Inter at the top.
Who is Floriani Mussolini?
Born in Rome on 27 January 2003, Floriani Mussolini is the son of Alessandra Mussolini, a former MP and MEP, and Mauro Floriani.
He is the nephew of the late pianist Romano Mussolini, from whom he takes his first name, and the great-nephew of the actress Sophia Loren.
He plays under the name “Romano” on his shirt to sidestep controversy. His surname has often drawn attention beyond his performances on the pitch.
Career journey
He began in the Roma youth system before moving to Lazio, where he completed most of his youth training. He went out on loan to Pescara in Serie C in 2023-24, then played for Juve Stabia in Serie B.
In July 2025 he joined Cremonese on loan from Lazio and made his Serie A debut. He returned to Lazio in the summer of 2026 and has started every league game this season. In all, he has made 34 Serie A appearances for Cremonese and Lazio.
His first appearance for Lazio, in the season opener against Bologna in August, was overshadowed when a section of the Curva Nord chanted “Duce, duce, duce” as he came on.
