Amici! I miss traveling and eating in Italy with all of you. And so, while we’re still all online, I’m excited to announce KP’s Italian Eating Club, a virtual community hosted by
DEMI
where we can all connect through our shared love of all things Italian. The interactive group chat is an ongoing food/wine/booze/cooking party. In the club, we group text via What’sApp about recipes we’re making, dream travel itineraries, techniques for perfect pasta, and more. Here’s what’s cooking at the IEC:

  • Monthly Zoom Aperitivo (a virtual happy hour dedicated to a recipe, wine, or Italian cocktail)
  • Weekly themes (every Thursday I will announce a wine to seek out or a recipe to cook at home, inviting you to share pics and feedback with the group. Meanwhile, I put each wine or dish in its cultural context)
  • Interactions with other Italian food and travel lovers (I’ll be there, too, but I’d love for you to talk amongst yourselves, as well)
  • Participate as much or as little as you wish (follow along or interacting if the spirito moves you)
The first week’s theme was winter vegetables and starting Thursday January 21, the IEC will kick off a week dedicated to pesto.

I have been hosting some informal Italian food chats this way for a few months now and it has been a really special way to meet and connect with likeminded people, talk about Italy, ask questions and share ideas so I hope you’ll come along for the ride. It costs $10 a month to join the Italian Eating Club community and 100% of the fee supports my research and work.

January 22 & 29: Zoom Drink-Alongs
Gola podcast co-host Dr. Danielle Callegari and I invite you to join us on Zoom for a virtual Italian happy hour drink along January 22 and 29. This coming Friday we will tackle the wide world of Negroni variations. There are only a few spaces left for this one.
Reserve
ASAP (the Negroni recipe can be seen after you register). On the 29th, we invite you to mix you own amaro (bitter sweet digestif) following my amaro recipe from Food of the Italian South (be sure to gather the ingredients in advance and have a jar large enough to accommodate 4 cups of grain alcohol. Your very own amaro will be ready to drink in a little over a month. (Recipe can be seen after you register!)

January 24 & 31: Context Conversations

January 24 I am leading a Context Conversations seminar on Food of the Italian South. This interactive seminar will make the food of South Italy come alive through enticing photos and an array of story-telling. Designed for the Italophiles and food enthusiasts, this conversation will both educate, tantalize, and inspire future Italian cooking endeavors.

. On January 31 meet one of Italy’s most celebrated flatbreads, focaccia. This olive-oil rich dough stems from the regional area of Bari and Pugliese towns, and is baked in iron pans at places like Panificio Fiore on Strada della Città in Bari Vecchia, then sold by the slice. In this hands-on conversation, you will learn how to prepare an authentic and delicious regional recipe, while you learn about its history and cultural significance.
