Starting Monday, 1 February, the Parco archeologico del Colosseo is reopening its doors to the public. In accordance with government regulations, the PArCo will be open every day Monday through Friday, from 10:30 – 16:30 (last entry 15:30) so that visitors will once again be able to enjoy a walk through History.

During opening hours, the same safety precautions will be in effect that were successfully enacted after our first reopening last June.

In the Colosseum, the one-way itinerary will take visitors around the amphitheater’s 1st tier — the arena floor will unfortunately be off limits —, with direct views down into the subterranean levels, before climbing to the 2nd tier. Here, visitors will pass through the permanent exhibition “Il Colosseo si racconta”, where they can learn about the 11 phases of the monument’s history and then finally arrive at the Valadier terrace with its panoramic view out over Piazza del Colosseo. As the itinerary makes its way through the Porta Triumphalis, on the monument’s western side, visitors can admire the wall painting depicting the city of Jerusalem, recently restored to its original splendor by a successful restoration project.

Visits to the Roman Forum and Palatine, both open spaces comparable to parks and gardens, will be accessible with a single, unscheduled entry through the Via Sacra/Arch of Titus, where PArCo staff will be on hand to keep visitor flow under constant control. At the end of their visit, PArCo guests may exit the Roman Forum-Palatine area from the Arch of Titus, Via del Foro Romano or Largo Salara Vecchia exits. The entire area will be open to visitors: from the Arch of Septimius Severus to the Arch of Titus up to the newly renovated Farnese Gardens, from the so-called Baths of Elagabalus to the Barberini Vineyard, crossing the Domus Augustana and the Domus Flavia with the ever-evocative view over the Palatine Stadium.

As a sign of hope for a new beginning, on Monday, 1 February, at 12:30, the students of the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia are holding a concert on the arena floor, free for Colosseum visitors and visible via live stream to our at-home public on the PArCo Facebook and Youtube pages.

The concert schedule and other helpful information on how to view it on-site and online are available on the concert event page on this site.
