The course consists of four sessions dedicated to plant reproduction, alternating theory and practical exercises in the garden. From propagation by seed to simple and complex vegetative techniques.

You can join single meetings or sign up for the entire course.

The course takes place on Saturdays from 3 pm to 6 pm and is open to anyone who is eager to learn and experiment in practice.

Course calendar:

- Saturday 28.2.2026 From reserve organs to micropropagation: fundamentals and prospectives

- Saturday 28.3.2026 Seeds as a biological project: sowing and germination techniques

- Saturday 25.4.2026 Layering and rooting: simple propagation strategies

- Saturday 23.5.2026 Cuttings and grafts: technical complexity and biological precision

The course is held by Alessandro Palenca, experienced nurseryman friend of Hortus Urbis.

  • Where: Hortus Urbis, via Appia Antica 42/50, Roma
  • Cost: suggested donation 25,00 euro per person the single lesson; 80,00 euro per person for the entire course (4 appointments);

HOW TO REACH US

Hortus Urbis at the former paper mill “Cartiera Latina”, via Appia Antica, 42 /50 (near the fountain)

Bike: Cristoforo Colombo bike route and Circonvallazione Ardeatina.

Bus: 118 or 218 on the Appia Antica (Domine Quo Vadis stop); 30express, 714 and 715 on the via Cristoforo Colombo (Cristoforo Colombo/Bavastro stop or Cristoforo Colombo/Circonvallazione Ostiense stop) and then short walk along the Circonvallazione Ardeatina in the Scott Park.

Car: parking available at via Appaia Antica 50.
