Rome to replace three tram lines with buses for five weeks
Stoppage to affect tram lines 2, 3L and 19L.Three of Rome's tram lines will be taken out of service or partially suspended for five weeks from Monday 13 April due to urgent maintenance works.Municipal transport operator ATAC said the temporary move is to allow utility company Acea Ato2 to carry out urgent works on the water network along Viale Liegi.
Line 2 will be entirely replaced by buses for the full duration of the works.
Line 3L will be replaced by buses on the stretch between Porta Maggiore and Valle Giulia, and Line 19L will be replaced by buses between Porta Maggiore and Viale Giulio Cesare.
Replacement buses will follow parallel routes, maintaining connections between the main stops.
The disruption affects one of the more heavily used tram corridors in the north of the city. Line 2 runs through the Flaminio district, linking Piazzale Flaminio - where it connects with Metro Line A and the Roma-Civita Castellana-Viterbo railway - to Piazza Antonio Mancini, passing along Viale Liegi.
The Viale Liegi works are in addition to two other tram disruptions already under way in the city: ongoing works on Viale del Parco del Celio near the Colosseum, affecting lines 3 and 8, and a separate tree-maintenance intervention on Via Prenestina and Viale delle Gardenie which runs until 9 April, affecting lines 5, 14 and 19.
Commuters are advised to check the city's mobility website for up-to-date information on replacement bus routes, stops and timetables for the duration of the works.
