Two Italian air force pilots killed in plane crash south of Rome

Italian prime minister sends her condolences as investigation gets under way into cause of crash.Two Italian air force pilots were killed when their military aircraft crashed near Sabaudia, a coastal town about 90 km south of Rome, on Wednesday morning.The crash occurred shortly after 10.30 while the two military personnel were engaged in training exercises over Circeo National Park. Rescue teams recovered the two bodies which were transferred for identification procedures and subsequent forensic examinations, state broadcaster RAI News reports. Authorities cordoned off the crash site as military and judicial authorities launch an investigation into the dynamics of the accident. "This morning, a T-260B aircraft from the 70th Wing of Latina, flying as part of a training mission, crashed to the ground, for reasons currently unknown, in an area of the Circeo National Park," the Italian Air Force said in a statement. In a post on social media, Italy's prime minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her deepest condolences to the families of the victims as well as to the air force and entire defence forces.
