Italy to launch new Christmas Markets train linking Rome with Arezzo
Christmas Markets train to operate every Sunday from 30 November until 4 January.Italy is launching a special rail service connecting Rome with the magical Christmas markets in Arezzo, with trains running every Sunday throughout the festive period.The rail journey, part of Italy's tourist train initiative, is a festive version of the Assisi Express and will operate on Sundays from 30 November until 4 January 2026.
The Assisi Espresso: Christmas Markets Edition is "the most comfortable and charming way to experience the magic of the holidays", organisers say, with stops in Terni, Spoleto, Foligno, Spello, Assisi, Perugia and finally Arezzo.
Travellers can look forward to a festive atmosphere on board the train, with decorations and Christmas music, as well as "a small gift" for each passenger.

"Our itinerary visits some of the most charming cities and towns, where you can explore the traditional Christmas markets of central Italy", FS Treni Turistici says, adding: "You can enjoy mulled wine, roast chestnuts and traditional treats, fully immersing yourself in the food and wine traditions of the season".
In addition to stocking up on Christmas presents at one of Italy's largest festive markets, those who travel to Arezzo can enjoy the city's light show in Piazza Grande.

Passengers who opt for Assisi can also enjoy Christmas markets as well as the spiritual atmosphere evoked by the light projections that transform the Umbrian pilgrimage town into an open-air nativity scene.
The journey from Rome to Arezzo takes less than four hours, departing Roma Termini at 08.30 with an arrival time in Assisi at 11.00 and Arezzo at 12.10.
The return trip sees the train leave Arezzo at 17.30, and Assisi at 19.03, arriving back in the Italian capital at 22.42.
