Rome remembers Pier Paolo Pasolini, 50 years after his murder, with 100 cultural events
Rome pays tribute to Pasolini with cultural marathon.Rome will host two months of cultural events in honour of the Italian poet, writer, film director and intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini, to mark the 50th anniversary of his murder.The programme, titled PPP Visionario and unveiled at Rome city hall on Monday, is designed to "honour the memory, legacy and prophetic vision of one of the greatest intellectuals of the 20th century".
The initiative aims to explore Pasolini's entire oeuvre, from poetry to cinema, including theatre, civic engagement and even sport, tracing his deep roots with the Italian capital.
The cultural journey spans Tor Bella Monaca to Garbatella, from Quarticciolo and Verano to Ostia, where Pasolini was brutally murdered on 2 November 1975.
More than 100 cultural events will be held to highlight the legacy of Pasolini, including a series of screenings and talks at Nanni Moretti's Cinema Nuovo Sacher.
Among the highlights will be a conversation dedicated to the relationship between Pasolini's cinema and the Gospels, with a discussion between director Martin Scorsese (via live link) and Fr Antonio Spadaro.
A major figure on the Roman cultural scene in the post-war period, Pasolini was an important protagonist in European literature and cinematic arts.
He is best remembered for films including Accattone, Mamma Roma and Salò, and literary works Ragazzi di vita and Una vita violenta.
