Six Italians missing and 13 in hospital as Tajani travels to scene of tragedy in Switzerland. At least 47 people have died and 112 have been injured in a New Year's Day fire at a bar at the Crans-Montana ski resort in south-west Switzerland, authorities said on Friday. There are currently six Italians missing and 13 Italians in hospital, according to Italy's ambassador to Switzerland, Gian Lorenzo Cornado, who said it could take weeks to identify the dead. Many victims are unrecognisable due to disfigurement from burns. The Italian foreign ministry's crisis unit told state broadcaster RAI News that 19 families had reported losing contact with their Italian relatives in Crans-Montana, six of whom were still missing. Italy's deputy premier and foreign minister Antonio Tajani, who was expected to travel to the scene of the tragedy on Friday, said Italy is ready to send forensic experts to Switzerland to identify the victims of the inferno. "It's difficult to identify the injured" - Tajani told reporters - "If they are in intensive care, sedated, and have no documents, it's difficult to ascertain who they are." The fire, which broke out at 01.30 in a bar called Le Constellation, is believed to have been caused after sparks from a flare attached to a champagne bottle reached the ceiling during a party attended by mostly young revellers. Italy has sent a helicopter from the civil protection department of the Aosta Valley and has made its healthcare facilities available, especially the Niguarda Hospital in Milan. Italy's president Sergio Mattarella and prime minister Giorgia Meloni offered their condolences to the families of those affected by the fire which has been described by Switzerland's president Guy Parmelin as "one of the worst tragedies that our country has experienced".
